Cooking with Nivia Private Chef Events: what do users think?

CT Deibel: Absolutely stellar dinner, drinks, and dessert! We learned how to make mofongo both a mushroom and shrimp type, and sofritos. She talked about the history of cooking in Puerto Rico, coming from three distinct influences. We learned, we laughed, we drank and we ate. Highly recommend!

K. Johnson: Awesome private chef experience with Nivia. Food was excellent and Nivia was very personable. I would absolutely recommend!

Josephine Hu: loved all the food nivia and her sous chef prepared! not only an amazing cook, but the sweetest person ever. definitely book nivia for any private chef events you may need.

No te arrepentirás. ¡Gracias Chef Nivia!

Dana Borrero: and it was, by far, everyone's favorite evening.Nivia is responsive, helpful, funny, and sweet. If you're thinking of hiring her, you absolutely should.

Thomas Olesko: I can’t say enough about chef Nivia and her team!! She entertained a bachelor party with 10 guests and it was better than I could have ever imagined. She was very communicative and created a perfect menu! She also had a bartender that was amazing and made incredible drinks! The team was so nice and friendly. It felt like we were her family. I can’t say enough about the experience. Thank you so much Chef Nivia! You have a true talent and gift and it is clear you love what you do! Thank you for making our experience so wonderful.Thomas and crew

Haleigh Hearn: This was one of the most amazing experiences of the entire trip! Chef Nivia is a true delight. She made the whole process go so smoothly. She remained attentive to all of our dietary needs and her food was the best I had while in Puerto Rico. She created an amazing environment for my friend’s birthday within the limited space of our rented apartment. She and her partner were so kind. Her partner made a delicious vegan cake for my friend. I absolutely recommend her to anyone and am so thankful for her. Thank you so much, Chef Nivia!

Reena P: dinner for 14 of us for a 40th birthday; the signature mocktail was divine, and the appetizers were such a big hit that folks had to remember to keep room for rest of the meal, which included a salad, entree and sides, and a vegan chocolate pudding dessert - all of the the Puerto Rican vegan food was so well flavored, the decor she brought to set the tables was beautiful, but most importantly, I so appreciated Nivia sharing with us about Puerto Rican food and history. She and her staff are so kind and made the birthday extra special!

Tabatha Valderrama: Chef Nivia catered a lovely birthday dinner for myself and a small group of friends while visiting San Juan for my 40th Birthday/New Year's Eve. The food was authentic, absolutely delicious, and by far the best meal that we had while we were in Puerto Rico! Chef Nivia also shared many historical details with us about the island, the local produce, and the cuisine. Her assistant, Melina, made a beautiful and yummy birthday cake that we all loved very much as well! I would highly recommend seeking out Chef Nivia's services if you're a local or tourist in San Juan!! Gracias Nivia & Melina!!

Lynda McNamara: and made it fun! The food was scrumptious from the appetizer to dessert, and we have yummy leftovers, too. Nivia cooks with her heart and a pinch of love. She also brought lovely tablecloths and decorations to bring a festive feel to our dinner. We highly recommend Chef Nivia!

Heather Baldock: by Chef Nivia at our rental house! Every ingredient was seasonal and locally sourced, and she was super knowledgable and mindful of our dietary restrictions. Everything was so tasty, I wish I could take her home with me! She even boxed everything up for us so we had leftovers for breakfast. Can't recommend enough :

Anna Farney: We booked Nivia during our family vacation in Puerto Rico, and it was the best meal we had there. It was so nice to be able to eat in the comfort of our airbnb, she is an expert in her craft and was able to talk about all the food, spices, and how the food flavors play together—we were all so impressed and our mouths satisfied. She brought everything needed to cook an entire meal, and left the home like she was never even in the kitchen. A true magician. When we come back we will absolutely be booking with her again. You will not regret the experience with Nivia!

Ortizfamily 275: I hired chef nivia for my husbands birthday dinner and she was beyond amazing! she was so sweet to my family and friends, the food was so delicious! i will definitely hire her again when in puerto rico

V V: Chef Nivia was absolutely wonderful. Some of the best food I had while visiting Puerto Rico was made my her and her team. I learned a lot about the culture, the history behind the food we were making, and had so much fun doing it. She took care of everything and the experience was incredible!! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique and authentic experience in Puerto Rico.

tiaramy maloy: When i say the best food! She came to our airbnb with her assistant and they were amazing! Omg the drinks, the appetizer, the homemade hot sauce the dinner was soooo great! 10/10

Marion: and the rum-infused flan. The staff was really nice and even sang a birthday song. Shout out to Stephanie for impeccable service on a rainy day. She gave us the best recommendations.

Genevieve Ingal: Location, ambiance, food and drinks were all on point. We had the rack of lamb as main dish, the shredded lamb on top to tostones for appetizer and their version of old fashioned and the Besito de Coco, their version of piña colada for drinks. Food was perfectly cooked with the flavors perfectly balanced. The Besito de Coco was so yummy and delectable. It is probably the best piña colada I've ever had. It has been four days since our dinner there and we are still thinking about going for another visit! Jafe, our server, was accommodating and helpful with recommendations. All in all, it was a great visit. We will definitely go back on our next visit to San Juan!

Random Knowbody: I loved the vibe here. I came on a Wednesday night and there was live music. I loved the ambiance and the location was very cute. Everyone was pleasant, friendly and helpful. Now onto the food. It was TOO salty. The rice was so hard it was sticking to my teeth. I had to have to sent back because it was too crunchy. My waitress didn't have a problem with me sending it back and she brought out a nice fresh bowl of rice that was a lot better. I got the whole friend snapper and I couldn't finish it because it was EXTREMELY salty. I am Jamaican, I LOVE fish so I was very disappointed in leaving half the fish on my plate. I am not sure if it was because the fish is straight from the sea or what, they have to pipe down on the salt. Make sure you ask them to use a little less for your food. If I could do it again, maybe I would visit but I'd get something else. I like the cutesy-ness of the restaurant but the food wouldn't bring me back.

Sharon DC: later on as we tried to finish our entrée. From the Can Can Pork Chop, Caldoso Lobster Rice, Caribbean Risotto, and Ropa Vieja which were plated nicely and huge in portions....it was all delicious. We swallowed it all down with the refreshing frozen drinks they had to offer.Alondra continued to be courteous by suggesting to my youngest the chicken strips with a side as her entrée. She even gave her the option of how it should be cooked: grilled or fried. Truly appreciated her kindness and attention to detail. At this point we were already in a food coma and couldn't go for desserts. We had to pack our leftovers and will continue to enjoy at home. Our dining experience was fantastic and we appreciated Alondra's thoughtful service which made it even better.

Andrew Koutalakis: We had Rabbit Fricassee, Smoked Pork and Chicken Sausage, Smoked Pork Meat, and the Yam, Eggplant and Squash Pastelon. Fish croquettes for an appetizer. Everone enjoyed their meals and cocktails. Service was outstanding. Great atmosphere and interior. My wife said she saw men at a table outside enjoying cigars and having a great time. Would recommend for groups and families alike.

Sophie Koutalakis: Had a lovely family dinner. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the restaurants vendors and the menu. She described the dishes we ordered to us, so we knew exactly what we were getting. Everything is fresh and farm to table, and their vendors are commited to increasing biodiversity. I shared the fish croquettes with my family, simply amazing. They are an appetizer so they are a smaller portion, but it was just enough before our main course split between me and my three other family members. For my main course I got the pastelón, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone in my family ordered something different, and we ended up trying something from all of our dishes because it looked so good! My mom got the rabbit fricassee, my father the smoked pork meat, and my brother the smoked pork meat with chicken sausage. Everything was so amazing I wish I could have ordered multiple dishes! You get what you pay for too, the portions are perfectly sized.

Sergio Hernandez: and the grilled octopus

1950 Condado - Puerto Rican Cuisine: what do users think?

Aaron Cotty: I ate at 1950's. It is upstairs on the second floor. There was a little wait outside as there are 3 restaurants running out of the same kitchen. The line went quickly. I was immediately approached, asked to scan the menu QR code from the restaurant I wished to order. I ordered from a very friendly waitress and had the food delivered from another smiley member of the wait staff. I got croquettes and country rice with a ginger ale. Everything came out in a jif and was incredible. The ambiance is chill and authentic. Highly recommended.

Mark Behrens: Ok, we all know Condado beach is going to be a bit touristy, but you want the bomb puerto rican food paired with a top notch dining experience - 1950 is your place! I'm talking mofongo, I'm talking tostones - we had to come back the next day for seconds on the tostones ceviche! If you come with a party of 4 or more you MUST order the jibaro platter - a perfect combination of awesome appetizers. Perched on a second level rooftop setup with ample outdoor seating, very intimate and romantic!

Sixela Melendez: The service was awesome and the waitress was very courteous. The place has great ambiance. The food was delicious, my husband ordered the chuleton en salsa de ajo which was mouth watering. The garlic sauce you can pair it with every other item we order which I loved. Also, I had el pollo a la Boscaiola, simply delicious! Definitely recommend Boscaiola. We’ll be back again!

Joe Garcia: , not all the spots were open, but that didn't detract from the vibe or experience. They had pizza, Asian, and Latin foods available as well as several spots for drinks. We opted for La Sobrina and wow! Just amazing! We got the Shrimp Mofongo and Churrasco with rice and beans. Both seasoned perfectly, amazing flavor and more importantly tasted fresh!Highly recommend!!!!!

Mena K: Café Berlin in Puerto Rico was quite a delightful gem! I enjoyed their gluten-free pancakes, which were absolutely delicious—fluffy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The café's ambiance is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot to relax. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring a wonderful experience.Restricciones de dieta: They had gluten free options such as pancakes.

Delia Oyola: Great service, Great Food

Bhumika Saivamani: Nestled in the vibrant hotspot area near Columbus Square in Old San Juan, this restaurant caught our attention with its vegan options. It's one of the few places where we found vegan mofongo, which offered a truly unique taste experience. While the tofu dish was decent, I found it a bit bland. However, the accompanying rice was absolutely phenomenal, adding a burst of flavor to the meal. The guava pancakes were a delightful treat, offering a tasty twist on a classic dish. We also sampled the acerola juice, which was refreshingly good.Overall, our experience was positive, though I must admit it was a bit on the pricey side. Nevertheless, the unique vegan offerings and flavorful rice made it a worthwhile visit.

Lizabeth Wesely-Casella: This was the most amazing and unexpected meal! The best food we've had in Puerto Rico! Get the snapper with lemon, garlic, rosemary, and butter. It's too good to miss out on! The Mamposreo rice was delicious and the veg was perfection. I wish THIS Cafe Berlin was in my neighborhood in DC. I'd be there all the time! I'd give it 15 stars if I could.

Emily Sims: Outstanding food & cocktails. Arrived amidst a torrential downpour and had the place to ourselves. Staff was helpful and friendly. One of the best meals we’ve had in San Juan.Platos recomendados Lick Your Plate Chicken y Snapper …

David Taylor: My wife and I were staying in Condado and wanted to have a nice dinner on a Sunday evening. We originally had a reservation for 9:00, then I received a text message from the restaurant, it said something to the effect that to due to some circumstances our reservation time had been changed to 8:15. It wasn't an issue for us, just pointing it out. The service is slow, but helpful, and I've come to expect that in PR. The food is very good, but at this price point, food excellence is expected. We had several starters and the chicharonnes were delicious. The mains were the guiso and fish of the day. The fish of day dish was fantastic and the guiso was okay.

Elizabeth Cruz: So let me start by saying this place was not easy to spot. My family and I were heading to dinner somewhere else and it was closed. I looked on the GPS for a closer restaurant and JEnrique popped up. When we walked there were few tables available. What I liked was that we were a party of 10 without reservations and they accommodated us right away. Food was super good and host was very nice. BTW, do not leave this place without trying their amazing “batata y mojo” By far the best side dish you can ever try. Will definitely come back to this spot when I come back to PR.

Devlyn Bodden: , was the acidity of some of the sauces. For example, the acidity in the ginger and turmeric sauce for the pastel overwhelms the flavors, and the pastel soaks up too much of it. Also, the acidity in the crudo, although expected in the dish, was too potent, making the experience of eating it a bit unpleasant. In the roasted fish

Ricardo Castro: Great food. Really creative Chef. Will visit again. Service was great too!! 4 🌟 because dessert needed help. Besides that, great!!Thanks Chef for your creativity!!! Keep representing Puerto Rico 🇵🇷.

Sebastián Rea: This place is spectacular. A restaurant with heart, soul, and purpose. The food is unique and delicious. The staff and service all made me feel like I was family. I came for the food and left with an experience. If you are in San Juan, you must check this place out. I came multiple times while I was on vacation because I wanted to try everything on the menu. And don't get me started on the drinks! Simply amazing! More restaurants should take notes about how this place does business because they could learn a thing or too. Trust me, you won't be disappointed here. Platos vegetarianos: Many vegan options

Tomás B.: and the beef stake were extremely salty

Michael Donnelly: Incredible locally sourced food, impeccably crafted drinks, and friendly service. What more could you ask for?

M- T-: I couldn’t possibly highly recommend this place enough. Must try in PR! Definitely recommend the tasting experience! The waiter with the curly mustache is so attentive and kind! I’ve brought many people here and they are always wowed by the experience. Excellent date or celebratory dinner spot! I would say maybe even consider for a Michelin star

Selin G: Absolutely delightful experience that makes you get to know Puerto Rico by food. All the food is locally sourced and every meal is explained to us by the sous chef as she was serving it. We had the wine pairing along with both the vegetarian and the omnivorous option. There were four food acts and a dessert act, each and every single one very special and well thought. The food was very simple but layered with so many textures at times. The restaurant is located in a beautiful area and has a very cozy and friendly environment. This place really enhanced our experience in Puerto Rico, must eat here!
